Prerequisites & Evaluations
A Prerequisite
A course that a student must earn credit for with a minimum grade of "C" or "P" (Pass), or a condition that a student must meet, before enrolling in a subsequent course.
An Evaluation
A formal request of CR to determine which credits earned from a previously attended institution will apply toward your current Degree or Certificate Program at CR.
Current Students
Students who have not earned the equivalent prerequisite at CR or another institution may challenge the prerequisite for a course and, if it is approved, students may register into the respective course. Students seeking this option must attach relevant documentation to the Prerequisite/Corequisite Challenge Form and seek the instructor's and Dean's approval prior to submitting the form to the Admissions and Records Office.
Transfer Students
Prerequisites: Students who have completed coursework at another institution are able to have prerequisite courses applied to their academic record at CR in one of two ways.
1. Submit Official Transcripts*: If you are seeking a Degree or Certificate from CR or plan on attending for multiple semesters, it is recommended that you submit your official transcripts. Your official transcripts will be reviewed for English, math and science prerequisites and equivalent coursework will be applied to your academic record. You can verify which courses have been applied by logging into your WebAdvisor account and selecting "Program Evaluation."
For delivery by mail, send official transcripts to: For electronic delivery, send official transcripts to:

*Foreign Transcripts must be evaluated by an independent transcript evaluation service that is approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
For more detailed information, please review our International Students page.
2. Submit the Request to Clear Prerequisite Form: If you plan on taking only a few courses at CR that require prerequisites and do not need the credits applied to your academic record at CR, it is recommended that you attach relevant unofficial transcripts to the Request to Clear Prerequisite Form and submit it to the Admissions and Records Office. Your request will be reviewed within one business week and, if have met the equivalent prerequisite, you will be registered into the requested course(s).
Evaluation: Transfer students pursuing a Degree or Certificate from College of the Redwoods should submit the Transcript Evaluation Request to the Admissions and Records Office so that their previous academic credits can be applied toward their current Degree or Certificate Program.
The transcript evaluation will include a review of General Education coursework and elective and major courses. Please be aware that, while completed courses toward your major from another institution may be considered for transfer, they will be applied to the General Education requirements and not your major courses at CR. Transcript evaluations may take up to 4 weeks to fully process. Once the evaluation has been completed, a notification will be sent to the student's @mycr.redwoods.edu Email account. You can verify which courses have been applied by logging into your WebAdvisor account and selecting "Program Evaluation."
