The Fire Academy offers a comprehensive program it focuses on equipping participants with fundamental firefighter skills and knowledge, emphasizing practical, hands-on training. This course is designed to meet the certification standards set by both the State Board of Fire Services and the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

Covering 9 units, the program fulfills the educational prerequisites for Firefighter 1 certification. Adhering to stringent standards akin to those within the firefighting profession, it places significant importance on grooming, attire, discipline, and demeanor expected of firefighters. Currently our academy is not accredited and you will have to test at another location to complete the certificate.

Key aspects such as teamwork, self-assurance, discipline, adaptability, and precise execution of instructions are highlighted throughout the course.

Selection Process for Academy Enrollment

Enrollment in each academy is determined through a lottery. Names are drawn at random to establish the order of acceptance. If you are not selected for the academy you applied for, you will have the option to secure a seat in the next available academy.

To be eligible for the lottery, you must complete the following steps:

  • Attend an orientation session.
  • Obtain a signed medical clearance form from a licensed medical professional
  • Complete all paperwork distributed at the orientation.
  • Pass the physical agility test (date to be determined).
