Aquaculture Technology

The Aquaculture Technology program at CR prepares individuals for careers in aquaculture and management of aquatic ecosystems by providing the training and experience required for immediate employment in the field. The program provides a broad background in applied science and math as well as specialized coursework and hands-on experience in fin fish and shellfish culture, production, and management. This program is ideal for students interested in hands-on work with various aquatic organisms and dynamic outdoor environments. Program graduates are prepared for employment opportunities in private aquaculture facilities, government hatcheries, or in entrepreneurial ventures focused on fin fish or shellfish farming. .

About the Program

This program provides students with knowledge of aquaculture practices, principles, and techniques for culturing different aquatic species in various production systems. Students gain technical knowledge, skills, and quantitative tools that are applicable towards real-world settings. In this program students acquire hands-on skills for assessing water quality, husbandry maintenance, system construction, spawning techniques, biosecurity, harvesting methods, and feeding practices. Upon completion, students will have the opportunity to go straight into the industry or further their education.
