Would you like to help children explore their world, deepen their thinking and develop their social relationships?
The goal of CR’s multifaceted Early Childhood Education (ECE) program is to train dynamic, capable and qualified teachers to meet the changing needs of our community. Many students leave our program ready to join the workforce as licensed preschool teachers or day-care site directors, while others transfer to a university to continue training in this rewarding and rapidly changing field.

ECE courses allow students to meet requirements for the California Child Development Permit from Assistant to Site Supervisor. Permits are issued by the California Commission for Teacher Credentialing.
Under the Curriculum Alignment Project, all of your ECE courses will transfer 1-to-1 to a California State University (CSU).
With an Associate Degree in Science in Early Childhood Education, you can transfer to Humboldt State University (or another CSU) as a junior, ready to complete a bachelor’s degree that will prepare you for more advanced career options.
In addition to the classroom, where you will learn theories of early childhood education, you’ll also benefit from 100 hours of mentoring by a master teacher in our learning lab, the Child Development Center. Our center cares for children 18 months to 5 years of age.
The Child Development Center Lab School is a NAEYC accredited center with support and mentorship from highly qualified teachers. At the Lab School, you will learn curriculum planning and relationship building, along with ECE play-based philosophies and the newest technology in assessment systems.

"College programs should be models of healthy, safe, and positive environments for students and should foster the development of positive self-esteem."
