Parent PLUS Loan Application Process


 To learn more about Parent PLUS Loan eligibility and who is an eligible parent, please visit studentaid.gov.

Deadlines:

  • Full Year (Fall/Spring) PLUS Loan: Due before the student's last date of attendance for Spring
  • Fall Only PLUS Loan: Due before the student's last date of attendance for Fall
  • Spring Only PLUS Loan: Due before the student's last date of attendance for Spring
  • Summer Only PLUS Loan: Due before the student's last date of attendance for Summer
       

Complete and Submit the Parent PLUS Loan Application

IMPORTANT: The borrower for PLUS loans is the parent, not the student. The parent borrower will be signing into studentaid.gov and completing the Parent PLUS Loan Application and MPN. DO NOT USE your student's FSA ID and password.

What Happens Next? (after you apply)

ATTENTION: Please check your junk mail/Spam folder on the email you used on your Parent PLUS Loan Application for electronic correspondences. You may receive emails from finaid@redwoods.edu and studentloanassistance@redwoods.edu.

The Financial Aid Office runs a weekly process to capture any submitted Parent PLUS Loan applications. If you indicated "Max" on the Parent PLUS Loan application, we will contact you to confirm the amount of your Parent PLUS Loan. The estimated processing time for Parent PLUS Loans is between 3-6 weeks. If you have not received any messages from College of the Redwoods after two weeks of submitting the PLUS Loan Application, please contact us so we can investigate. Once we have finished processing your application and the loan has been awarded, the student will receive an email. The parent borrower will receive an electronic award letter via email detailing loan amounts, loan period, and disbursement dates. Please email us if you have any questions or worries.

Parent loan borrowers may contact the Financial Aid Office with any questions they have. The Financial Aid Office can speak with a parent about their Parent PLUS Loan eligibility, amount, disbursement, and repayment plan options. The Financial Aid Office cannot discuss the types or amounts of financial aid the student is receiving without a release of information on file. The student can fill out a Release of Information eForm, located on our forms page.
