Dan Phillips to be honored at 16th annual CR Dinner & Sports Auction
The 16th annual College of the Redwoods Athletics Dinner and Sports Auction will be held on Thursday, August 8th at the CR Gymnasium. The Dinner and Sports Auction is a benefit for CR student athletes and their sports programs.
The event kicks off at 5:30pm with a no-host social and silent auction, dinner and speakers at 6:30pm with the live auction to follow. This year’s event will highlight Dan Phillips as the honoree and featured speaker.
Dan Phillips started his education at Bridgeville elementary and attended high school at Fortuna High where he played football and wrestled. He was all-league in both sports and the football teams were the conference champions in both his junior and senior years, as well as being undefeated in the 1974-75 season.
Phillips attended CR from 1976-78 and graduated with an AA degree in 1978. He wrestled and played football both years. The CR 1976-77 football team was undefeated and won the conference and north state championship. In Wrestling, he was ranked 4th in small JC state. He then coached wrestling and football at Fortuna High from 1979 to 1984.
Phillips returned to CR in 1985 and completed a second AA degree in Computer Science in 1988. He graduated from HSU in 1991 with degrees in Computer Science and Business Administration.
After leaving HSU, Phillips co-founded MetaSystems Inc. with James Blaisdell, a professor at HSU, and built software applications for large technology companies such as HP and Sun Microsystems. Phillips then moved to Silicon Valley where he held several executive positions with tech companies Crossworlds, TRADOS, and TiVo. He is now the Chief Technology Officer for Hulu.
Tickets for the Dinner and Sports Auction are $600 for a table of ten or $500 for a table of eight, or $65 per person. Tickets can be obtained by calling the CR Athletic Department at 476-4213.
